Parliament failed to pass the Lokpal Bill and unfortunately anshan planned by Team Anna to protest against it failed, reportedly due to his not so good health but if Anna Hazare does not protest that means there would be no protest at all? Is not there enough reason to ring the bell against our representatives who failed to pass the bill in the winter session? Sure, there is. If we do not indulge in an analysis on party-by-party basis of why the bill failed, the very fact that it failed and may be taken up again during budget session makes it imperative for protest of some kind. It has chances of being re-introduced in budget session after taking amendments into account and all party into confidence by the government but can we at such a juncture over-trust the politicians to pass the bill sincerely with an incapable Anna who can’t fast due to not so good health and masses like us who have outsourced our right to protest to the old man? I already see the bill being quietly shifted away from the agenda especially since the protest by Anna in Mumbai has failed. It may be premature to be such a pessimist but what is irking me more is that there has been no protest by us-the masses yet! The entire question is that if Anna is not keeping well and cannot protest and Team Anna is just another team, sans Anna than no one in this nation is concerned about the problem of corruption. That also means that whatever claims Anna movement made about evoking popular protests against the politicians were actually really hollow and people are still comfortable watching this fight against corruption from the ringside alone. To them it is some new reality show which plays out every now and then in some distant studio and does not obviously affect them, except during their tea sessions with neighbours where everybody is concerned about,‘desh kahan ja raha hai ’ and ‘yeh sarkar toh bech ke kha gayi’.As of actually doing something about it, they can only speculate, ‘oh Anna is not in a good health, UPA gets some respite now’! If this is how it is then I must say, we need no Lokpal as what is the use of this law when complaints would be really few, until the people of the nation don’t get up and active, nothing can help the state of affairs, neither Anna nor God!
