Arvind Kejriwal has finally bitten the bullet; Arvind Kejriwal is finally going to be sworn in as Delhi Chief Minister. Now what will happen to the political fate of Aam Aadmi Party in 2014 Lok Sabha elections? My take is AAP is going to benefit from its decision to make government in Delhi. True that the most important leader of the party will now be tied up to a single state thus restricting his mobility to campaign all over the country but who says good work does not spread?
Arvind Kejriwal had made a plethora of promises in AAP manifesto before contesting Delhi state assembly elections. It is time to prove that he is worth his salt by fulfilling them one by one. There are three ways in which AAP government in Delhi will help the party in Lok Sabha elections:
A AAP is not work shy: First of all AAP has silenced the critics in other political parties. To all those who claimed that AAP does not have enough spine to govern or that the promises made in manifesto were unreal, AAP has responded by acting as a responsible teenager who not only rebels but also shows the world how his methods are right!
B Space for more leaders: Arvind Kejriwal has been the star campaigner for AAP. He is also responsible for most of the ideological base that AAP identifies itself with. This was alright for a party with state ambitions but if AAP has stated national ambitions, then it needs to have many more such leaders. This is a difficult litmus test for AAP but one it needs to pass if wants to stay in politics for a long time. If Kejriwal indeed gets tied up to Delhi, AAP will get time for introspection and the need for more leaders will lead to an early lookout.
C Work speaks for itself: AAP cannot get any publicity as good as the work it now showcases in Delhi. If it fulfils its promises, then people all over the country will be moved to vote for AAP in whichever constituencies this party floats its candidates.
