Remember android powered BSNL Pantel T-Pad, which gave a 
competition to Akash Tablet? Well the news is that it is now available. BSNL Pantel T-Pad has three models of which the lowest is IS701R available for Rs.3499.It has impressive specifications with a 1GHz processor, Android 2.3 and internal memory of 2GB but the ram is a dismal 256 MB.These tablets were launched in February 2012 with an option of pre-booking for interesting customers.
Now the tablet is available for the customers who pre-booked it then. Customers have received mails from Pantel informing them that the delivery of their tablet is ready while they have to make payment in the following manner:
“Mode of payment is cash deposit along with filled challan. For those customers who already have an account in Punjab National Bank (PNB), they can deposit the amount along with the transaction fee through a cheque given along with the filled challan”
Tablet would be delivered with 24-48 hours of payment in Delhi/NCR and 72-96 hours for rest of the country. There is also a delivery charge applicable, which is Rs. 175 for residents of Delhi/NCR and Rs. 250 for other locations.

It is by a private company. NOT by BSNL. They’ve just tied-up with BSNL to offer BSNL connection with their device, in turn they are using BSNL name to gain customer’s confidence. However, now they are asing people to deposite money in their account. Surely seems like a scamster’s trick.
Also, absence of GPS is a big handicap (if the device actually exists.)
Actually market is full of promises of cheap tabs, Akash, Pantel etc etc… but NONE is actually available.

Yes absolutely. GPS is not a very big thing to ask. GPS modules in retail are available at $10-$15 in bulk you can get much less than that. So that could have been added very easily.
