Can AAP win Loksabha elections 2014? To say that the rise of Arvind Kejriwal from a common man to the post of Delhi CM, within a span of two years, is a phenomenal rise would be an understatement of sorts. Once he took the chair, he started fulfilling the promises embedded in the manifesto of AAP to the voters of Delhi. First he negotiated and ensured that the power tariff was reduced for first 400 units by half with 48 hours. Next he tackled free water issue and ensured that people are given free water upto a quota of 6000 odd litres per month. He transferred 600 odd corrupt employees from Jal board. The severe winter was starting to take its toll when his minister took stock and on war footing he set up emergency camps in unused buses. I would suggest that the unoccupied ministerial quarters too would be suffice to ensure that substantial number of people are housed with food and warm clothing for a temporary time-frame.
The biggest game changer was when he announced the corruption helpline number. The helpline was announced in the media 011 27357169 for the public to become whistle blowers against bribe seekers. Suddenly an idea flashes, that this can be a better route than Lokpal route to trap the corrupt. A sting operation strategy is adopted with the help of expert panel. The first arrest was made recently to culminate a revolutionary strategy to bring down corruption. If this strategy is taken forward to ensure that corrupt officials are first suspended and then dismissed, it would reduce the head count of bureaucracy by more than 50%. This will enable better governance and better revenue collection. The lesser head count can be compensated better with increased revenue generation to the treasury of the state.
AAP members have also started screening the hospitals, sending shivers down the spines of medical fraternity who are used to laidback style of functioning. The opposition leader thinks that it is interference in the medical fraternity and their job. Why not when one has the mandate of the common man, why should they not oversee the delivery of quality treatment to common man? I believe these are all small step towards better governance, the bigger issues lies in administering the centre.
In my view, it will not be difficult for Kejriwal to make it to the centre. The first strategy is to open membership of AAP party across the country, an ambitious program of recruitment of one crore members. Considering the revolutionary method adopted I won’t be surprised if they easily surpass the targeted figure. I was just working out the logistics assuming that AAP clocks 1 crore membership by the Republic Day. If each member canvasses for 10 votes among his friends and relative circle, it would mean 11 crores votes in the kitty of AAP party in the Lok Sabha election. The spin off effect of 11 crore would naturally double which will churn out 22 crore votes. What an amazing turnaround. Under such a scenario do we need elections? It is a walk over for the AAP party.
Kudos to Kejriwal and team, I won’t be surprised if Anna comes forward to become PM of AAP without fighting the elections. What would be the ideal manifesto of AAP for national elections:
1. Circular Water pipeline across India
2. Nationalisation of all natural resources and routing them through PSU’s
3. Creation of employment by incentive to industries
4. Health care for every citizen of India.
5. Uniform price of goods and services across India.
6. Judicial reforms to ensure smooth delivery of justice.
7. Civil defence volunteers recruitment to cover all India to attend to emergency, disasters & security of the female populace.
I am sure Arvind and his team will add a few more issues to the manifesto to ensure that it appeals to entire nation. What a revolutionary change in Indian political scenario? Let us now enjoy the journey and participate in the transformation. Is this just a pipe dream or achievable dream only time will tell.
