It is 116th Birth Anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose, whom the nation reveres as ‘Netaji’. Bose is as much as heroic as it can get for his efforts to secure freedom for India in a manner unprecedented of his times. During the Second World War, he sided with the Japanese and Germans to defeat colonial power Britain which was controlling India then as a colony.Unfortnately for him, Germany and Japan were defeated in the war and thus his dream of liberating India through war by fighting the British as a part of Indian National Army could not realize. Besides, his contribution in the Indian struggle for independence, the mystery behind his death is an oft-repeated public truth. He was sought by the allied powers for trying him as a war criminal but history as taught in Indian schools says that he died in a plane crash in Taipei, Taiwan while there have been versions of truth contesting this so –called facts which range from the story of Netaji turning a holy man and residing in India as late as 1985 while a version has it that he was living in Russia for the rest of his life.
It is only shameful that a son of India met a tragic end in oblivion with no official confirmation on his last days. Some people view this as an attempt to hegemonize the history of India by giving all the credit of independence to Nehru-Gandhi lineage. Today, Twitter has been abuzz with tributes, rebukes, memories of him while the nation once again like every year wonders what really happened to Netaji.
Here is what tweeples have to say:
