Thrice: How many times India has won the Under 19 World Cup

India has won Under 19 World Cup thrice. India first won the coveted trophy in 2000, 2008 and now 2012! The latest has been won today under captaincy of Unmukt Chand where Team of the juniors has snatched the victory from the Aussies.

Let’s revisit the glorious past victories:

2000: India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets, also the host that year in the finals. Mohammad Kaif was the captain and Yuvraj Singh bagged the title of Man of the Series. Mohammad Kaif, Yuvraj Singh, Ajay Ratra, Venugopal Rao and Reetinder Sodhi were the players who went on to play for India as seniors.Under 19 world cup started in 1988 and India won it in 2000 for the first time.

2008: India won it for the second time in 2008 under Virat Kohli when the game was decided by Duckworth–Lewis method. This World cup took place in Malaysia in which India clinched the trophy from South Africa in the finals. Virat Kohli, Abhinav Mukund, Saurabh Tiwary and Ravindra Jadeja went on to play for the Indian team.Virat Kohli shot to fame since then which he has now consolidated even more with his equally great show in Team India. He has always been this brave as in his Ranji debut, his father died due to brain stroke but he went ahead to score a 90!

2012: And today, on 26th August 2012, our kids have done us proud again by winning world cup from Australia, also the host in an amazing final held today. Unmukt Chand, Captain scored a brilliant 111 today, not out and has secured a stake in the future of Indian Cricket. This boy already plays first class cricket including playing for Delhi Daredevils. India chased a target of 226 runs successfully! How many cricket careers this win launches, remains to be seen.
