All India Congress Committee’s meeting is going on in New Delhi. This meeting is crucial because AICC will discuss the Loksabha elections strategy in the meet. Here are the important highlights from the AICC Meet:
# Rahul Gandhi will not be the Prime Ministerial candidate for Congress for 2014 Loksabha elections. The party claims that they have never fought elections by declaring the PM candidate in advance. This puts to rest speculation around naming Rahul as the PM candidate. He has been entrusted with an important job of leading Congress’s campaign this elections for now.
# Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said that the party should give preference to young candidates in at least 50% ie 272 seats.
# He also said that everyone is equal for the congress party and that the country has achieved unparalleled growth under UPA.
#Sonia Gandhi has said that Congress has always taken steps to protect women and promote education. She also said that Congress has always opposed communal forces and secularism is the identity of the country.
# She also applauded the initiatives for farmers and rural sector including MNREGA and increase in minimum support prices for wheat and rice.
# PM Manmohan Singh urges people to compare the track record of previous governments with Congress’s performance. He says that the economic slowdown is a global effect and despite this India is tipped to grow at 5%.
# He has blamed CAG for inaction by officers who are scared of CAG’s action.
# Like Sonia, PM Manmohan Singh highlights the efforts of the UPA government for women and poor.
# He also accepts the fact that inflation has increased but so have salaries.
