It was a humiliating moment for the incumbent Congress, as they had to settle down with just 8 seats. In 2008, Congress won 43 out of 70 seats. Sheila Dikshit could not become Delhi CM fourth time straight as Kejriwal contained her victory chariot.
Narendra Modi Declared as PM Candidate by BJP: Narendra Modi was declared as PM Candidate by BJP on 13 September 2013. The event was remarkable as it was too early to declare PM candidate, when elections were more than 8 months away. It came as an attempt to send a strong message to Congress about BJP’s early preparations for 2014 Elections. However, it received a lot of criticism from everywhere as Modi has remained controversial since 2002 riots. Nevertheless, it was able to infuse life in BJP cadre as after this, BJP registered victory in assembly elections. He will now face elections in 2014 and thus his nomination makes to our list of major political events 2013 in India.

Congress scored the brownie point by finally sending him to gallows.
Muzaffarnagar Riots : On 27 August 2013, bloody riots broke out in the Muzaffarnagar District in Uttar Pradesh. The clashes between Muslims and Hindu Jat Community left reportedly 43 people dead and 93 injured. The riots are described as the worst in UP in recent times. Food Security Bill (FSB): Congress Passed Food Security Bill in the name ‘National Food Security Act 2013’ on 12th September 2013 to wow poor people across the country. The bill was criticized by opposition as well as economists, as it will cost around 3 % of India’s GDP and increase the subsidy burden by 18%. The move was made by congress to benefit 2/3rd of India’s population. However, it is expected, it will take a lot of time in implementation.
NOTA (None Of The Above): On 27th September, Supreme Court said that the Indian voters will now have a new button ‘NOTA’ which gives them the right to reject all the candidates on the list. This decision will pressurize all the political parties to field better candidates in order to win. Durga Shakti Nagpal is a government servant, presently posted as Joint Magistrate of Kanpur (Rural). Her suspension was later revoked due to increasing pressure from political parties, general public & social media.
Dr. Ashok Khemka is an IAS Officer in Haryana and has been transferred to different places 45 times, after he exposed scams and illegal workings in his jurisdiction. He came into news after he exposed land scams of Mr. Robert Vadra, Son-In-Law of Sonia Gandhi, Congress president. However, due to growing presence of general public on social media, Mr. Khemka has received a lot of public support.

Experts’ opinion said it was a move by Rahul to show his tough stance on corrupt politicians and create his own good image in the public.
