Putting to rest its bonhomie with TMC, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s party SP has finally reached a compromise with Congress where SP has agreed to back Pranab Mukherjee in the presidential election while Pranab may finally manage to secure UPA’s official nomination for the post.
Yesterday Ramgopal Yadav, senior leader, SP had expressed his party’s apprehension about mid-term polls and lack of wish to topple the UPA government. It is but not for the sake of stability only that SP has reportedly compromised with Congress. As speculated Congress may have been successful in clinching the deal by offering generous returns to SP.
Meanwhile, NCP has strictly asked Sangma to keep out of Prez Race, as NCP does not want to be seen on a different page from Congress. As reportedly earlier, Sangma had BJD and AIADMK backing him in the foray. This may pave way for Sangma to withhold his presidential ambitions, as he would not risk losing his reputation and AIADMK’s coordination with BJP may become stronger in the presidential election as if not Sangma then Jayalalitha may finally go with BJP’s choice.
Mamata on the other hand stands convinced with Kalam as her choice and even though the news of SP-Congress cooperation is pouring in, Mamata has reiterated her stand.
