And it’s a hit! No matter how many jokes on RA.One’s perceived failure may be doing the rounds but truth is that after pointless comparisons with first day collection of Salman starer Bodyguard, RA.One by the sheer virtue of its massive box office collection of Rs. 170 crores worldwide can be now officially called a hit. Film had a budget of Rs.150 crores so in the first weekend alone film has recovered its cost. Reportedly satellite rights for the film were sold at Rs 37 Crores and music rights for Rs. 8 crores. It is the largest ever release by an Indian film at about 5000 theatres across the world.
The film was written off by critics with nasty jokes on RA.One already gaining popularity on social networking websites, but it seems the first of its kind special effects show put up by SRK has paid off.
RA.One was a much-anticipated film and it was after quite a while that a SRK starer released on screen. After the success of ‘My Name Is Khan’ last year, Shahrukh did a series of cameo in films of friends and family.
Himesh Reshammiya’s Damadamm and Esha Deol’s Tell me O Kkhuda released in the same week as RA.One.While Hema Malini reportedly defended Tell me O Kkhuda against reports of its failure in media by citing the limited release TMOK had, Himesh is a lucky man with film critics defending him on his behalf. Critics have liked the simple story and even the film reportedly held its own due to positive word of mouth.
