Shuddh Desi Romance is desi but it is not shuddh. They trick you with the trailers and you watch it the day it releases but maybe after Band Baja Baraat and Ladies vs Lucky Bahl, Maneesh Sharma has lost the plot quite literally.
The film is an impossible tale of three youngsters where guy runs away from a marriage, then falls for another girl and this time this girl runs away from the marriage. Life comes full circle but is our generation this commitment phobic? I am sure my female friends who update their names from Sudha Sharma to Sudha Naveen Kapoor after marrying Naveen Kapoor will disagree. The smoking Parineeti (also smoking hot Parineeti) lives in a neighbourhood where everyone knows about her series of live-ins boyfriends but her life is easy, khap panchayats listening?
Not everybody in this film smokes, good damsel Tara (Vaani Kapoor) finds refuge in ‘thandas’. That moment when you don’t know what to do and you light a cigarette, she orders a thanda. So does Raghu (Sushant Singh Rajput) when he leaves girls and girls leave him. So much Thanda is flowing around, that you start wondering, who is taking the maximum footage- Parineeti or Thanda!
By this time, you want to take refuge somewhere else and evade the scene of action but afsos there is no bathroom nearby. It’s bathroom everyone keeps going to when the going gets tough for them in the movie or as they call it- ‘Taaylet’.
With this film Maneesh wants to take you to the hinterland after showing you Delhi and Goa through his earlier films but everything about Jaipur, Rajasthan is great except the plot, which is not there in the film at all. Where are the people who were there in the movie?
